Behind the Work: Crafting the Wild Moss Studio Identity and Website

Updated: Aug 13, 2025

At Pinefolk Creative, every project is a chance to help someone step fully into their story. When the idea to create Wild Moss Studio came up, the vision was to create a nature-inspired brand rooted in simplicity. The original oil paintings are core to the brand identity, so the logo, brand, and website needed to stand out but not take away from the art.

Meeting Wild Moss Studio

Wild Moss Studio is more than just another outdoorsy apparel brand. It is all highlighting the beautiful original oil paintings of Reed Martin-McKinnie. (Full disclosure: Reed is my step-daughter and I have been heavily involved in creating Wild Moss Studio with her.) We had a strong vision: to create a brand that felt organic, grounded, and a little bit wild. It needed to be welcoming but untamed, soft yet rooted in strength. That balance became the foundation of everything we built.

Branding with Intention

We began with deep discovery sessions to uncover the core of Wild Moss Studio’s purpose and voice. From the beginning, three words kept coming up: earthy, wild, simple. These words guided every design decision. (Full disclosure #2: our first discovery session happened while swimming in the Gulf at St. George Island.)

The Logo

The overall goal of the logo was to design something simple and classic as to not compete with the paintings featured on the Wild Moss Studio products. We didn't need something trendy or over-designed, just a strong, simple logo to help the brand stand out.

Color Palette & Typography

The color palette draws straight from nature — muted deep green and dare we say....mossy. This tone echoes Wild Moss Studio’s connection to the land. Paired with a clean sans-serif, the typography adds a layer of both simplicity and approachability.

A Website That Feels Like an Adventure

Designing the Wild Moss Studio website was about more than aesthetics. It needed to function as an e-commerce site with the ability to connect directly to fine art and apparel printers, securely process payments, and automate customer notifications. Overall, the feel of the website needed to complement the art and apparel - not compete with it.

Collaborating with Vision

One of the best parts of this project was the collaboration. Reed came with a rich artistic vision and immense talent, and together we co-created something that truly feels like a brand that represents the trails, springs, and other natural places we often visit. We love when clients trust the creative process and bring their full selves to the table — it always leads to the most meaningful work.

In Their Words

“Pinefolk Creative had this intuitive way of understanding and supporting my vision — like they could see the shape of it before I could. The process was grounded, thoughtful, and beautifully collaborative. I am truly proud of this brand and website.” Reed Martin-McKinnie, Wild Moss Studio
